Domaine Comte Abbatucci, located in the heart of the Taravo Valley, south of Ajaccio, is one of Corsica's most iconic vineyards. Run by Jean-Charles Abbatucci, this historic estate embodies the island's identity in all its nobility. On a granite terroir nurtured by marine and mountain influences, the estate perpetuates the cultivation of ancestral Corsican grape varieties, using a rigorous biodynamic approach. The Cuvée du Ministre Impérial 2023 is its most accomplished expression: a deep red wine, vibrant with energy and complexity, that magnifies the heritage and sensory qualities of the Corsican vineyard.

    Notes and pairings

    Notes and pairings

    Tasting notes

The intense ruby color of this vintage heralds a wine of remarkable depth. The nose reveals aromas of ripe red fruit, Mediterranean spices, and a touch of balsamic. On the palate, the attack is fresh, the tannins are silky, and the whole unfolds with great complexity, featuring notes of myrtle, pepper, and maquis shrubland. The persistent and elegant finish leaves a delicately saline imprint, a signature of its terroir.

    Food & wine pairings

This wine pairs wonderfully with a confit shoulder of lamb, a roast pigeon or mature Corsican cheeses.

The Domaine Comte Abbatucci vineyard covers approximately fifteen hectares of hillside slopes with granite soils. Cultivated biodynamically, it is planted exclusively with historic Corsican grape varieties derived from old massal selections. The natural conditions – significant temperature variations, regular winds, and abundant sunshine – allow for optimal ripening. This unique terroir, both mineral and pristine, imparts to the wines an aromatic signature marked by freshness, tension, and elegance.

    Owner and history

The estate practices plot-by-plot vinification, respecting lunar rhythms and without superfluous oenological additives. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, followed by aging in demi-muids or foudres depending on the cuvée. The Cuvée du Ministre Impérial 2023 was aged for 12 months on fine lees, in old barrels, in order to express all the complexity of the Corsican terroir without marking the wine with excessive oak.

    Vinification and aging

Jean-Charles Abbatucci represents the eighth generation of a line of Corsican winemakers and political figures. Committed to biodynamic farming since the 2000s, he has replanted forgotten grape varieties to preserve the island's viticultural heritage. A visionary deeply rooted in his terroir, he manages the estate with exacting standards and passion. His work is now recognized as exemplary, and his wines are among the most sought-after by discerning connoisseurs of fine Corsican wines.
