    Craggy Range

    Notes and pairings

    Tasting notes

The Faiveley Les Cazetiers 2018 reveals a deep nose of black fruits, violet and undergrowth, carried by a structured, ample and mineral palate.

Aroha 2020 opens with aromas of red cherry, rose petal and sweet spices, with a silky texture and an energetic finish.

The Sanford & Benedict 2019 seduces with its notes of ripe raspberry, pomegranate, black tea and dried flowers, offering a velvety mouthfeel, with a remarkable balance between freshness and indulgence.

    Food & wine pairings

This selection excels in refined dishes: roast poultry, lacquered duck, filet mignon with reduced jus, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon or mature soft cheeses.

The Cazetiers vineyards are situated on very steep, brown calcareous soils, renowned for their natural drainage and their ability to produce structured and profound wines.

In Martinborough, the Aroha vineyard extends over ancient terraces of pebbles and clay, offering concentration and precision.

The Sanford & Benedict Vineyard, planted in 1971, is one of the oldest terroirs in Santa Barbara, benefiting from a cold oceanic climate that brings tension, freshness and aromatic finesse.

    Owner and history

Domaine Faiveley, owned by the Faiveley family for seven generations, embodies traditional Burgundian know-how combined with a modern vision of precision.

Craggy Range, founded by the Peabody family, has become a standard-bearer for premium New Zealand winemaking.

Au Bon Climat, an iconic property built by the late Jim Clendenen, continues his legacy today thanks to a team dedicated to maintaining the excellence and elegance that have made it internationally renowned.

    Vinification and aging

Faiveley vinifies Les Cazetiers with gentle extraction, a measured proportion of whole bunches and aging in barrels, some of which are new, to preserve the character of the terroir.

Craggy Range favours plot-by-plot vinification, slow macerations and aging in lightly toasted French barrels to magnify the purity of the fruit.

Au Bon Climat adopts a very Burgundian approach: careful destemming, traditional fermentation and prolonged aging in French barrels, including a significant proportion of new oak.

    The team's opinion

Three masterful expressions of Pinot Noir, bringing together the depth of Cazetiers, the vibrant intensity of Aroha and the silky elegance of Sanford & Benedict in a case of remarkable harmony.
