    Description

The Cuvée 1522 from Maison Philipponnat is a historical tribute to the year the family settled in Ay. The 2016 vintage follows in the tradition of great gastronomic champagnes, combining the power of the Ay terroir with remarkable freshness.

    Tasting notes

This is a fine wine that pairs perfectly with a beautiful seafood platter, a creamy risotto with scallops, or even caviar. Serve at around 8-10°C.

    Producer

    Producer

The 1522 is made primarily from the House's oldest plots, notably in the Grand Cru terroir of Ay. It is a champagne that plays on the balance between vinosity (the structure of Pinot Noir) and a sharp minerality brought by the Chardonnay.

    Owner and history

This cuvée comes from the estate's historic and remarkable plots: the Pinot Noir from the "Léon" plot in Aÿ, and the Chardonnay from the Verzy vineyard. All the grapes are Grand Cru.

    Vinification and aging

    - Vinification in oak barrels without malolactic fermentation for some of the wines
    - Extra crude dosage of 4.25 g/l (one third of the traditional dosage)
    - Aged for 6 years on lees

    The team's opinion

Maison Philipponnat is one of the few to use the "Solera" principle for its reserve wines, but for the Cuvée 1522, it favours vintage expression to capture the unique identity of the year 2016.
