    Description

      Domaine Georges Vernay , a Condrieu legend and key figure in the revival of the northern Rhône, has built its reputation on meticulous work on steep slopes and an unwavering vision of quality.

      Domaine Alain Voge , an absolute reference in Cornas, participated from the 1960s in the modernization of the appellation while preserving its identity as a powerful and authentic terroir.

      Domaine de Bonserine , historically supported by Maison Guigal, excels in the delicate art of dense, fragrant and profound Côte-Rôtie wines, made from old vines and rigorous aging.

      As for Stéphane Ogier , he has established himself as one of the contemporary masters of Syrah, sublimating the terroirs of Côte-Rôtie as well as those of Seyssuel, where he was one of the pioneers of the revival of the Collines Rhodaniennes.

      Notes and pairings

      Tasting notes

      La Dame Brune 2021 – Vernay: an elegant nose of fresh blackberry, violet and white pepper; slender, fresh, taut palate, with fine tannins and a chiseled finish typical of the granite of Saint-Joseph.
      Les Vieilles Vignes 2013 – Alain Voge: intense bouquet of ripe blackcurrant, incense and fine leather; deep texture, tight but melted tannins, long and tasty finish marked by the minerality of Cornas.
      La Garde 2020 – Bonserine: dark color; aromas of black raspberry, olive, violet and smoky notes; full, velvety, structured palate with a persistent and spicy finish.
      L'Ame Soeur 2015 – Ogier: precise nose of black fruits, graphite and dried flowers; straight, energetic palate, carried by a fresh structure and a remarkable elegance characteristic of Seyssuel.

      Food & wine pairings

      This selection pairs perfectly withroasted or grilled meats, Arack of lamb, Aduck breast, Aroast pigeon, or even slow-cooked dishes like avenison stewor aBraised beef with mild spices.

      The more structured cuvées (Bonserine and Voge) accompany the most powerful dishes, while Vernay and Ogier shine on roast poultry or refined cuisine.

      The four estates share an exceptional winemaking heritage: steep granite slopes, poor soils promoting aromatic concentration, and ideal exposures for a slow and complete ripening of Syrah.
      Saint-Joseph rests on light schists and granites;
      Cornas is distinguished by darker granites and deep arenas;
      Côte-Rôtie combines schists, mica-schists and metamorphic rocks;
      Seyssuel, finally, reveals a terroir of brown schists of rare tension.
      All offer controlled yields and a demanding cultivation on terraces.

      Owner and history

      Georges Vernay is the embodiment of a family dynasty that is now brilliantly run, perpetuating an elegant and iconic style. Domaine Alain Voge remains an independent pillar, the legacy of a visionary winemaker who left his mark on the history of Cornas. Domaine de Bonserine, a property with a contemporary and solid style, is part of a tradition of high standards and regularity, while historically benefiting from high-level technical support. Finally, the Ogier family passionately pursues a philosophy based on precision, understanding the terroirs and the purest expression of northern Syrah.

      Vinification and aging

      The winemaking process relies on precise control of extractions: partial or total destemming depending on the vintage, long macerations, punch-downs or pump-overs adapted to the desired style.

      Vernay prioritizes elegance with gentle extractions;

      Voge adopts a traditional, patient and very careful winemaking process;

      Bonserine focuses on plot-by-plot vinification before an ambitious aging process in barrels;

      Ogier, a perfectionist, combines stainless steel tanks, wood and sometimes amphorae to preserve aromatic purity.

      The aging process, which lasts from 12 to 24 months, uses varying proportions of new barrels depending on the desired intensity.

      The team's opinion

      Four sublime expressions of northern Syrah, combining the power of Cornas, the finesse of Côte-Rôtie, the aromatic precision of Seyssuel and the profound elegance of Saint-Joseph.
