Located at the foot of the slopes of the appellationCôtes de BourgThe château quickly became a major player in the region thanks to the unique identity and high quality of its wines.Mitjavile familyis also the owner of the famousTertre RoteboeufhasSaint-Emilion.
The property consists of two productions:

    • THECambes Estate, located on the marshlands, which is in the Bordeaux appellation
    • THEChâteau Roc de Cambes, located on the hillsides ofCôtes de Bourg

The vineyard extends over about ten hectares of vines arranged in an amphitheater on hillsides.
François Mitjavileentrusted the management of the estate to his daughter.NinaShe takes care of this clay-limestone soil which reminds her of that of her childhood inTertre Roteboeuf.
ThereMitjavile familyalso owns another farm, that ofDomaine de l'Aurage, formerly known as Château Cadet. This latter property is managed byLouis, François' son.
THEChâteau Roc de Cambesand the other properties of the Mitjavile family produce wines that showcase the richness of the terroir and themerlot, the family's preferred grape variety.

Merlot, the flagship grape variety of the estate

The vineyard ofRoc de Cambes CastleIt covers approximately ten hectares and consists of vines averaging 45 years old. They are planted on a sloping clay-limestone terroir and benefit from an ideal, oceanic climate. The vineyard is located on the edge of theGirondeThis river helps to moderate the cold in winter and thus protect the vines from frost. The grape varieties planted consist mainly ofmerlotbut also ofcabernet sauvignon, ofcabernet francandmalbecFor theChâteau Roc de Cambes, the vineyards for the appellation red wineCôtes de Bourghave access to integrated pest management (IPM) treatment.François MitjavileThe estate relies on the practice of permanent ground cover for its vineyards. The vines are pruned using the Royat cordon technique, a method not common in the Bordeaux region. This short pruning method ensures even ripening of the grapes, as they are all at the same level and receive a similar amount of sun exposure.

A style unique to the Mitjavile family

    Character and know-how

The wines ofChâteau Roc de Cambesreflect the character of the terroir and the purity of the fruit.François MitjavileHe and his daughter do not make wines according to the current trend towards more powerful wines, but prefer to let the emotion evoked by the aromatic profile speak for itself. The estate's wines express a beautiful intensity combined with remarkable finesse and freshness. The wines evolve, both in color and flavor, revealing a beautiful, more complex bouquet after a few years in the cellar. This is made possible by an intense and lengthy aging process in oak barrels. Nevertheless, the wines can be enjoyed very well in their youth. All the cuvéesMitjavilewhether it is theChâteau Roc de Cambes, THECambes Estate, THEChâteau Tertre Roteboeufor theDomaine de l'Auragereveal the demand for quality and the perfect expression of themerlot, who signs theMitjavile style.
