The Château Smith Haut Lafitte vineyard stretches across an exceptional terroir of Günzian gravel laid over a clay-limestone subsoil. These conditions provide optimal drainage and promote perfect grape ripening. The vines destined for Petit Smith Haut Lafitte are cultivated according to organic farming principles, with meticulous attention paid to each plot. This constant care preserves the purest expression of the Pessac-Léognan terroir.

    Owner and history

Since 1990, Château Smith Haut Lafitte has been owned by Daniel and Florence Cathiard, former ski champions and entrepreneurs who passionately turned to winemaking. Under their guidance, the estate has experienced a spectacular rise in quality, incorporating sustainable and innovative practices, from biodynamic farming to energy self-sufficiency. Their vision combines Bordeaux tradition with a respectful modern approach to the environment, making Château Smith Haut Lafitte a global benchmark for Bordeaux wines.

    Vinification and aging

At the estate, vinification takes place in temperature-controlled wooden vats with gentle extraction to preserve the fruit's finesse. The Petit Smith Haut Lafitte is aged for approximately 14 months in French oak barrels, some of which are new.
For this 2019 vintage, the aging process highlights the wine's aromatic precision while imparting a velvety texture. The wine is bottled without fining, in order to preserve its purity.
