Clos Fourtetis located on the famous limestone plateau ofSaint-Emilionand benefits from one of the finest terroirs in the appellation. The soil is a thin, perfectly draining layer of clay-limestone. The 18-hectare vineyard is enclosed by stone walls.Merlotmakes up 85% of the vineyard, the rest is planted with grape varietiesCabernet Sauvignonfor 10% and ofCabernet Francfor 5%. The estate has privileged access to the entrances of the famous galleries dug under the limestone plateau; the wines at the end of their aging and from the moment they are bottled find an ideal setting for a final rest before being shipped to the four corners of the world.

THEClos Fourtetwas bought by the familyCuvelierin 2001, just like Château Poujeaux.Philippe CuvelierThe estate then enlisted the services of Stéphane Derenoncourt, and a major restructuring and modernization of the vineyard was undertaken. The old Cabernet Franc vines were gradually replaced with appropriate massal selections of Merlot. In 2013, the estate acquired two properties inSaint-EmilionThe neighboring Château Grande-Muraille and Château Côte de Baleau. A winery was inaugurated in 2014 with small tanks to vinify the different plots separately.
