the story of Château Pavia Decesse

Château Pavie Decesse

Like a piece of Pavia

Traces ofChâteau Pavie Decessedate back several decades. The earliest known owner dates from the 19th century; at that time, it was...Adolphe PigasseThe following figure who has marked the history of the field isFerdinand BouffardThis Bordeaux wine merchant, by acquiring the surrounding plots, was the origin of the Château Pavie vineyard. At that time, it covered an area of 50 hectares in a single block. However, for reasons known only to him, Ferdinand Bouffard sold off the original “Pigasse” section in 1885. It is this plot that would give rise to Château Pavie Decesse.

Then, if an initial restructuring of the property took place during the 1950s, it wasGérard Persewhich will literally transform the property ofPavia DecesseSignificant strategic and renovation actions have indeed been undertaken to bring the vintage to its highest level. Furthermore, thanks to the support ofMichel RollandAndAlain ReynaudThis great vintage has continued to improve and is finally revealing its full beauty.

Persian Vineyards

Since 1997

In 1997,Château Pavie Decesseis ceded to thePersian familyGérard Perse was not originally destined for this story. Indeed, a Parisian for several generations, he eventually falls in love withSaint-Émilionand its beautiful region during a trip to the Bordeaux region.
Drawn to this land full of secrets, this city dweller decided to live in harmony with the seasons and become a winemaker. This is how he discovered the fascinating and convivial world of Bordeaux wines, a far cry from the world of mass distribution he came from.
He therefore transplanted all his roots to Saint-Émilion. Since then, he has headed a SAS (simplified joint-stock company).Persian Vineyards, which includes several castles in the region:

  • Pavia
  • Pavia Decesse
  • Bellevue-Mondottein Saint-Emilion
  • Clos Lunelles
  • Spirit of Paviain Bordeaux

Today, his daughter Angélique, his son-in-law Henrique Da Costa, and their two children live on the property. It would seem that Gérard Perse's passion and enthusiasm have finally touched the whole family…

The terroir

at the origin of a Grand Cru Classé

THEChâteau Pavie Decesseis planted on the exceptional terroir of the plateau ofSaint-ÉmilionAlthough it adjoins the vineyard of its elder brother,Pavia CastleThese are indeed autonomous entities, each with its own specific characteristics. For example, the terroir ofPavia DecesseIts originality stems from its location, entirely situated on limestone soil.
This soil benefits theMerlotswhich, incidentally, make up 90% of the vineyard. The rest is planted withCabernet Franc.
This 3.65 ha area benefits from plot management and precision work.
To obtain a “Great Wine” ofSaint-ÉmilionThe grape harvest is done by hand and the sorting is meticulous. The work in the winery is no less precise, thanks in particular to state-of-the-art infrastructure.
Thus, theChâteau Pavie DecesseThis wine is produced and aged for almost two years in French oak barrels. It is a complex vintage, whose taut tannic structure makes it a wine with a ten-year aging potential.
