Description

The Domaine des Lambrays traces its origins back to the 14th century and has gradually established itself as one of the jewels of Morey-Saint-Denis. Classified as a Grand Cru in 1981 , the Clos des Lambrays boasts a historic enclosed vineyard of 8.66 hectares, one of the oldest in Burgundy. Long owned by the Saier family and then the Freund family, it experienced a revival from the 1970s onwards thanks to extensive replanting and restructuring work. Today, it embodies the classic elegance of the great terroirs of the Côte de Nuits, producing wines that are at once profound, refined, and subtle.

    Notes and pairings

    Notes and pairings

    Tasting notes

Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru 2021: Delicate nose of peony, raspberry and orange peel. Elegant palate, fine tannins, vibrant mineral structure, fresh and lingering finish. Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru 2020: Aromas of black cherry, licorice, violet and sweet spices. Ample texture, dense mid-palate, firm but noble tannins, great aromatic depth. Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru 2009: A generous bouquet of ripe black fruits, undergrowth, cocoa, and integrated oak notes. A velvety, structured, long, and warm palate, typical of a perfectly crafted, sunny vintage.

    Food & wine pairings

These three vintages pair perfectly with roast poultry, roast pigeon with reduced juices, veal chop with morels, venison fillet or mature Burgundy cheeses.

Clos des Lambrays covers 8.66 hectares situated on a gentle east-southeast facing slope in Morey-Saint-Denis. The soil alternates between marl, brown limestone, and scree over a Jurassic limestone subsoil, offering remarkable geological diversity. This mosaic of terroirs gives the wine its unique blend of floral finesse, mineral depth, and silky texture, the hallmark of great Pinot Noirs from the Côte de Nuits.

    Owner and history

Since 2014, Domaine des Lambrays has belonged to the LVMH group, which pursues a policy of excellence: precise restructuring of the plots, sustainable viticulture, refined plot selection, and investments in a modern winery. Under the direction of highly qualified technical teams, the estate continues to elevate Clos des Lambrays to one of the greatest wines of Burgundy, a symbol of prestige and tradition.

    Vinification and aging

The winemaking process follows a rigorous, plot-by-plot approach: hand-harvesting, careful sorting, gentle maceration, and limited punch-downs to preserve elegance. Aging is traditionally carried out in French oak barrels, with a measured proportion of new oak depending on the vintage, generally around 50%. This method allows the wine to gain complexity without ever masking the purity of the fruit or the delicacy of the terroir.
