Marqués de Murrieta is now managed by Vicente Dalmau Cebrián-Sagarriga, who carries on the family legacy with modernity and ambition. Since taking over the estate in the 1990s, he has initiated a qualitative revolution, modernizing the facilities and adopting sustainable viticulture practices. A passionate advocate for great wines, he aims to showcase the identity of Rioja through exceptional wines like Castillo Ygay. His unwavering commitment to quality and authenticity has allowed the estate to achieve international recognition and become one of the world's leading ambassadors of great Spanish wine.

    Vinification and aging

After hand-sorting, the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for 8 to 12 days. Regular pump-overs and punch-downs are performed to encourage skin contact and promote a slow, natural extraction of aromas and polyphenols. After fermentation, the solids are transferred to vertical presses and undergo a gentle, slow process to extract color and mature tannins. Tempranillo: 28 months in 225-liter American oak barrels. Mazuelo: 28 months in 225-liter French oak barrels. After blending, the wine is aged for 13 months in concrete tanks until bottling.
