A diverse terroir serving great wines
The wide variety of soils at the Michel Sarrazin & Fils estate
THEDomaine Michel Sarrazin & Filsbeing composed ofmultiple plotsEach vineyard has its own terroir and therefore its own unique character. Furthermore, as the vineyard is planted on hillsides, it benefits from a south/southeast exposure, ideal for grape development. Indeed, among the different terroirs, one finds brown calcareous or calcic soils resulting from the weathering of Jurassic limestone.GivryAndBurgundy, as well as a vineyard planted in the marls and clayey limestone of the middle Jurassic for the Maranges.
The vineyard is cultivated both in therespect for traditions, while incorporatingmodern techniquesThe main objective is to produce robust, fruity wines that will bring great pleasure at every stage of their development. Finally, theDomaine Michel Sarrazin & FilsThey have chosen to control yields, in order to harvest only the best grapes, and to vinify each terroir separately. This allows them to extract the full typicity of each terroir and to offer great wines every vintage.
Unique expertise
between tradition and modernity
Upon his arrival at the head of the estate,Michel SarrazinHe made the choice, and his sons after him followed suit, to opt for traditional viticulture in order to obtain ripe fruit and the healthiest possible grapes. Thus, the yield of the grapes is limited by very strict bud thinning and, if necessary, green harvesting on a case-by-case basis. Consequently, each vine is considered an essential link in the success of a great wine. Each vine is visited five to six times a year to achieve the best possible balance and to harvest only the highest quality bunches.
The decision was also made to cultivate the vineyard ofDomaine Michel Sarrazin & FilsUsing sustainable farming practices, the vines are protected against all diseases and pests, while limiting the use of chemical inputs and soil degradation. Once the harvest (both manual and mechanical) is complete, the winemaking process is gentle. This allows the wines to develop with finesse and density, growing in modernity and originality thanks to the great diversity of terroirs and the specific characteristics of Burgundy grape varieties. All of these choices result in the production of red wines (which represent the vast majority of the vineyard) of very consistent quality. Indeed, this is a reliable choice at a very reasonable price, which you will have the pleasure of enjoying both young and after a few years of aging.
